Only four more days! I’m going to miss the serenity and beauty. It’s been exquisite. As I said earlier, Lars and Nirin (the hosts here at Chateauhauteroche.com) are a delight. The warmth, the welcome, their smiles make a visit here a memorable experience. And the food (Lars is a professional chef; I love watching him cook.) is fantastic, fresh, and expertly prepared. The eggs are from the farmer next door; and as I write this he is outside picking artichokes and herbs for our dinner. The acres of flowers, trees, and miles of view of the Loire Valley from the huge terrace where we have most of our meals (Only rain moves us inside.) will stay with me forever.
This morning I took a walk with Lars and helped remove dead flowers from the rhododendron bushes. Helping out makes me almost feel that it’s mine! My own castle and acres of grounds! (He’s not that eager for my help in the cooking department!)
There are towns, cathedrals, markets, other castles to visit, and boat trips on the Loire, but I confess that except for a couple of market trips, I’ve barely left my personal chateau. (I did take a five-day art workshop that was taught in our Scholastic called, Winky, Thinky, Stinky. Mort Gerberg is doing the illustrations. And another kids’ book in response to Trump’s immigration policy, called “People are People.” The last line is: The out may be different, but the in is the same. That one doesn’t have a publisher yet. Hopefully soon!! “Connecting” is the theme of the book and my life!!living room by Louise, a talented art teacher. I confess that I am not and never will be an artist!)
I’m going to stick to writing. At the moment I have a kids’ book in production at Scholastic called, Winky, Thinky, Stinky. Mort Gerberg is doing the illustrations.
